Extra Plate

Sharing the Abundance: Easter Dinner Edition

As Easter gets closer, I find myself thinking about the simple, sweet memories of Easter dinner at Nana and PopPop’s. They had a small three-bedroom rancher on the north end of town—one bathroom, five kids, and a kitchen barely big enough for four people, yet somehow it always held a whole crowd.

After church, you could smell the ham and scalloped potatoes before we even got to the door. And those deviled eggs? We call them angeled eggs in our house—because I’m not giving the devil credit for something that good, especially on Resurrection Sunday.

The kitchen was packed, the laughter loud, and the food always worth the wait. At our house, the kids’ table went first—biblical, I’m sure 😉—and I always came prepared with an extra plate. Of course, that didn’t stop my cousins from giving me the side-eye like I was breaking some unwritten law. I had my system: no food touching, everything in its place. Looking back, it was just playful teasing, a reminder that even in abundance, sharing matters.

It makes me think of Ephesians 3:20–21:

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”

God’s generosity blows ours out of the water. He’s always ready to give more—more grace, more peace, more provision. Easter reminds me of that. And it reminds me that the blessings we’ve been given aren’t just for us—they’re meant to be shared.

So whether it’s a second helping at dinner or offering kindness when it costs something, let’s be the kind of people who share freely. God’s got plenty more where that came from.

When scarcity says, “You’ll never have enough.”
Trust says, “There's always enough to go around – and then some.”
